Turn complex field data into blocks
MFB Pro extends Meta Field Block for projects that use custom fields in the WordPress Block Editor. It is intended for displaying complex ACF field data as structured blocks, reducing the need to create custom blocks or write custom display code for common layouts.
The plugin works with ACF advanced layout fields, including Group, Repeater, and Flexible content. It transforms these field types into container blocks that work similarly to core container blocks. This makes it possible to build post templates and other dynamic layouts directly in the editor.
Display repeaters in practical layouts
Repeater fields can be displayed as lists, grids, or carousels. Carousel layouts are useful for banner sliders, while accordion layouts can be used for FAQ pages. These options allow repeated custom field data to be presented in a format suited to the content rather than as an unstructured value.
- Display ACF Group fields as container-style block content.
- Display ACF Repeater fields as lists, grids, or carousels.
- Use repeater fields in accordion layouts for FAQ content.
- Display ACF Flexible Content layouts.
- Build post templates for dynamic data without creating custom blocks.
Images, galleries, and related content
MFB Pro can display an ACF Image field as a core image block. An ACF Gallery field can be presented as an image gallery using grid, masonry, or carousel layouts. These options are suited to portfolio pages, product presentations, image collections, and other content where visual field data needs a defined layout.
ACF Relationship and Post Object fields can be displayed as a Query Loop. This helps connect custom field relationships with block-based content presentation. The base plugin also supports custom fields for posts, terms, and users, as well as fields from ACF and Meta Box whose values are strings or can be converted to strings.
Editor and developer workflows
The block can be nested inside a parent block that provides postId and postType context, such as Query Loop, WooCommerce Product Collection, or Term Query. It can also be used as a stand-alone block. Custom fields need to be available through the REST API or have their field type set to dynamic for display in the Block Editor.
Developer-friendly hook APIs allow the output to be customized, complex data types to be displayed, or the block to act as a placeholder for content using object_id and object_type context parameters. The block can also display shortcode output, including within a Query Loop where the correct post ID is needed.
Installation and setup
Install MFB Pro in the WordPress site that uses the relevant custom-field framework, then add Meta Field Block to a template or post layout in the Block Editor. Choose the field and configure its presentation, such as a repeater list, gallery grid, masonry layout, carousel, accordion, or Query Loop. Preview the result in the editor and adjust the block arrangement as needed.
