Manage links across your WordPress site
WP Links PRO provides centralized controls for external and internal links. It can manage how links open, which rel values they use, and whether visual icons are shown. The plugin is intended for sites that need consistent link behavior across posts, pages, comments, widgets, and other rendered content.
Settings can be applied to external links, internal links, or selected groups through advanced link rules. The plugin filters output on the fly, so the real content stored in the database is not changed. When the plugin is deactivated, the underlying content remains as it was before filtering.
Control link attributes and behavior
Choose whether links open in a new window or tab. You can also apply follow or nofollow settings and add noopener or noreferrer values for link handling. WP Links PRO supports ugc, meaning User Generated Content, and sponsored values in the rel attribute.
Additional attributes such as titles and CSS classes can be set through the available controls. FontAwesome and Dashicons can be used for link icons, allowing external or internal links to be visually identified according to the site’s configuration.
Apply rules to selected links
Link Rules let you create advanced rules for chosen link groups. A template tag can apply plugin settings to specific content, while the data attribute data-wpel-link can indicate whether a link is external, internal, or excluded. You can also set this attribute yourself to influence how individual links are treated. The value ignore completely excludes a link from processing.
Review links with the Pro tools
The Link Scanner checks links across the site and reports whether a link is broken or redirected, what its target and rel attribute are, and which page contains the link. Scanning can cover the complete page or focus on posts, comments, or widgets.
Exit Confirmation provides a confirmation step when visitors click external links. This can help sites acknowledge when a visitor is leaving the current site. Link Rules offer more targeted control when different link groups require different treatment.
Use the plugin on larger installations
WP Links PRO includes network settings for WPMU installations. Built-in actions and filters are available for site-specific implementation needs. These options support a workflow where administrators set broad defaults while developers or advanced users refine behavior for particular content or link groups.
Installation and setup
Install and activate WP Links PRO in WordPress, then open the plugin’s administration page. Configure external and internal link behavior, including new-window settings, rel values, icons, and other attributes. Add link rules or template tags where more specific handling is needed.
After saving the settings, the plugin processes rendered output on the fly. Use the Link Scanner to review links and inspect their destinations, status, and attributes. Test representative posts, comments, and widgets to confirm that the configured rules produce the intended result.
