Flexible WordPress role management
User Role Pro is a WordPress user role editor for managing roles, capabilities, and access settings from an interface that does not require coding. It includes the features of the free edition and adds tools for creating custom roles, controlling access to selected plugins and dashboard menu items, restoring standard roles, and configuring permissions across a multisite network.
This makes the Pro edition useful for websites where different users need different responsibilities. You can define roles for content work, administration, site maintenance, or other tasks by selecting the capabilities and access appropriate to each role.
Core role and capability controls
The plugin lets you view and manage WordPress user roles, modify role capabilities and permissions, copy capabilities from other roles, and rename existing roles. You can also assign multiple roles to a user when a user needs combined access from more than one role.
When reviewing a role, the recovery option resets its capabilities to the settings that existed when the plugin was first activated. If a role was created after activation, recovery uses the initial capabilities set during that role’s creation. Standard WordPress roles can also be reset to their default settings with Pro.
Pro features for detailed access control
- Unlimited custom roles: Create as many custom WordPress user roles as your site structure requires.
- Plugin restrictions: Restrict access to specific plugins for selected roles.
- Dashboard menu restrictions: Control access to particular dashboard menu items.
- Standard role reset: Reset all standard WordPress roles to their default settings.
- Multisite configuration: Configure user roles and permissions across all subsites in a multisite network.
- Priority support: Receive support within one business day according to the stated support policy.
Useful administration workflows
Create a role with only the capabilities needed for a particular responsibility, then apply it to the relevant users. Copying capabilities from another role can provide a starting point before you refine permissions. Renaming existing roles can make the administration area easier to understand for your team.
For multisite installations, Pro provides a way to configure roles and permissions across all subsites in the network. Plugin and dashboard restrictions help separate routine content work from broader administrative access by keeping selected areas unavailable to roles that do not need them.
Installation and use
Install and activate User Role Pro in WordPress, then open the plugin’s role management interface to review existing roles and capabilities. Create a custom role or select an existing one, adjust its permissions, and assign the role to users as needed. Use the documentation and installation materials when you need guidance.
The plugin includes an easy-to-use interface, documentation, video tutorials, multilingual support, and RTL support. If a role requires correction, use the recovery or reset tools described above. If the plugin is deleted, roles revert to their original capability settings.
