Flexible video playback for WordPress
HTML5 Video Player Pro is a paid WordPress video player designed for responsive embeds, advanced playback control, and adaptable presentation. It builds on the basic player with tools for managing how videos look, load, play, and appear across posts, pages, widgets, and other site content.
The player can be customized with a color picker, giving you control over its appearance. Pro also supports externally hosted videos from sources such as Amazon S3. This makes it suitable for websites that keep video files outside the WordPress installation while still presenting them through a configurable player.
Advanced playlists and streaming
Pro adds three extra playlist layouts: List With Thumb, List on Right Side, and Grid. Advanced playlists can include a live search filter, previous and next arrows, custom thumbnails, and duration badges. A playlist post type and the [video_playlist] shortcode provide additional ways to organize and publish collections of videos.
For adaptive playback, the player supports both HLS streams using .m3u8 files and DASH streams using .mpd files. A quality switcher lets viewers choose available video quality levels, while speed and quality controls give them more control over playback. These options can be useful for tutorials, courses, product demonstrations, portfolios, and other sites with more than one video presentation requirement.
Playback, controls, and captions
Pro includes restart, rewind, and fast-forward buttons, along with options to show or hide individual controls. You can adjust playback speed and resolution, configure the download button, or use a custom download URL. Multiple subtitle tracks can be added so viewers can select a language. The player also supports chapters and overlays for adding structure or supplementary content to a video.
An advanced shortcode generator is available inside the post and page text editor. Autoplay when visible on screen can trigger playback only when the video enters the viewport. The page load optimizer defers player assets and video loading to help manage page loading behavior.
Monetization, access, and presentation
The player can integrate advertising through a Google VAST tag URL. End screens and popup players provide options for what happens after playback or how a video opens in a distraction-free modal. Password-protected videos can restrict access to viewers with a valid password, while watermark support can add branding or copyright information.
Additional IDs and CSS classes are available for advanced styling. These features complement the player’s responsive design and the broader embedding options provided by the block editor and shortcodes.
Installation
- Install and activate HTML5 Video Player Pro.
- Open the HTML5 Video Player menu in the WordPress dashboard.
- Create a new player and configure the video source, controls, captions, playlist, and display settings.
- Copy the generated shortcode into a post, page, or widget, or add the HTML5 Video Player block and select your player.
- Publish the content and review the player on the intended device sizes.
For a quick embed, the plugin also provides the [video_player src=”video src”] shortcode format.
