Advanced filtering for WordPress content
VK Filter Search Pro extends VK Filter Search with a broader set of search and filtering controls for WordPress websites. It is designed for the Gutenberg Block Editor, allowing you to place search interfaces as blocks without writing PHP.
Visitors can search posts using keywords, categories, tags, custom taxonomies, post types, dates, and other available criteria. The plugin can target posts, pages, or custom post types, making it useful for websites where visitors need to narrow a large collection of content.
Build search forms with blocks
Search forms are created from the WordPress editing screen. You can insert a Filter Search Block on a search result page or display it on a post archive page. When a site uses custom post types, the search can be configured to target those content types as well as standard posts and pages.
- Place search controls with Gutenberg blocks.
- Search by keyword, category, tag, or custom taxonomy.
- Specify the target post type.
- Insert the form on a search result page.
- Display the form on a post archive page.
The Keyword Search Block can search the content field of posts. Taxonomy Search Blocks can be used for structured terms, helping visitors refine results through the classifications used by your website.
Pro filtering controls
The Pro edition adds a Post Date Search Block for date-based filtering and a Search Result Single Order option for controlling the order of individual search results. It also includes Custom Field Search, identified in the source as beta, for websites that store additional information in custom fields.
For selection-based filters, Pro supports checkboxes and radio buttons. Checkbox selections can use AND or OR search settings, allowing you to decide whether results must match all selected terms or any of them. When using a Taxonomy Search Block, you can display post counts and show terms that currently have no postings.
Interface and layout settings
VK Filter Search Pro provides block width settings for each screen size, helping you adjust the search interface for different display areas. Labels for search items and the text used on search buttons are editable, so the controls can use wording that matches your website.
Items are placed in blocks, and the source states that there are no limitations on the number of labels that can be set. Each search item can have one label, such as a label for a category control.
Theme considerations
The plugin is intended to work with various themes, but visual design issues may occur because of theme CSS. The layout of search results depends on the active theme and on the controls that theme provides for the search results page. These factors should be considered when arranging the blocks and reviewing the finished interface.
Installation and setup
Install VK Filter Search Pro on your WordPress website, open the editor for the page or archive where the search should appear, and add the relevant Filter Search blocks. Choose the target post type and configure keyword, taxonomy, date, custom-field, checkbox, or radio-button settings as needed. Adjust labels, button text, and responsive block widths before reviewing the search results with your active theme.
