Manage featured images at scale
Quick Featured Images Pro is a WordPress tool for managing featured images across large amounts of content. Instead of opening posts individually, you can work with featured images in bulk and apply changes to selected posts, pages, and supported custom post types. The Pro edition also adds more ways to find images in existing content and manage external featured images.
Bulk image actions
Use bulk operations to set, replace, or delete featured images in one process. You can choose a single image or select multiple images for assignment. When using several images, Pro can place them in random order. You can also choose to use each selected image only once, leave remaining posts unchanged when the available images run out, or remove excess featured images after the selected images have been used.
Bulk actions include controls for existing featured images. You can overwrite current images or keep them unchanged, with keeping existing images as the default setting. You can also limit processing to posts without a featured image, helping you focus on incomplete content and reduce the number of results shown.
Flexible image sources
Pro provides several approaches for setting the first available image as a featured image. Depending on your content, it can use the first post image already available in the media library, the first image from the current site domain, or the first external post image. Images from the current site or external sources can be copied or downloaded into the media library when they are not already available there.
Additional sources include the first attached image, the first image in a standard WordPress gallery, the first embedded content thumbnail such as a YouTube thumbnail, and the first image of a NextGen Gallery. These options are useful when existing articles already contain suitable imagery but do not have featured images assigned.
Rules and targeted workflows
Flexible filters help you avoid changing every item on the site. Narrow a bulk action to the content you want to modify, including selected post types. You can also define presets for automatic default featured images for future posts, with rules based on post properties. This supports repeatable workflows for different types of content.
The plugin also supports featured-image management from sortable image columns in post, page, and supported custom post type lists, so individual changes can be made without leaving the list screen. Database entries for featured images whose image files no longer exist can be removed with a single action.
Installation and use
Install the Pro plugin in WordPress, activate it, and open its featured-image management tools. Choose a bulk action or configure a preset, select the image source, apply the relevant filters and options, then review the targeted content before running the change. For recurring publishing workflows, create default-image presets based on the properties of future posts.
