Product files for WooCommerce customers
Product Attachment for WooCommerce Pro gives store owners a way to attach files to products and make them available to customers through product or order pages. Attachments can include images, documents, videos, PDFs, and other file types supported by the store setup.
Store owners can add one or multiple attachments from the product edit page. Each attachment has its own settings, including a name, description, uploaded file, order status selection, and expiry date. This makes it possible to manage different files independently rather than applying one shared rule to every attachment.
Product and order page visibility
Attachments can be made downloadable or viewable on order details pages, product detail pages, or both according to the configured setup. When an attachment is shown on an order details page, its availability can be matched to an order status.
- Pending payment
- Processing
- On hold
- Completed
- Cancelled
- Refunded
- Failed
When the selected status matches the order, the attachment download becomes available. This gives store owners control over when customers can access order-related files. Download links can also be set to expire after a chosen period through the attachment expiry setting.
Bulk assignment and targeting
The Pro edition extends attachment management beyond individual product editing. Attachments can be added to all products or to variable products, and bulk assignments can be made directly to multiple products. Store owners can also assign attachments to categories, then include or exclude selected products and categories as needed.
This approach can help organize files for product documentation, supporting material, digital resources, or other information connected with purchased items. Product page visibility can be enabled when customers need to review an attachment before or around the purchase process, while order page availability can be used for files connected to a completed order or another selected status.
File uploads and external URLs
Each attachment can use either a file upload or an external URL. The available attachment types include documents, JPG images, videos, PDFs, and more. The choice between uploading a file and entering an external URL allows the store owner to use the location that best fits the material being provided.
The Pro edition also includes an option to enable or disable attachments in email. This setting provides additional control over whether the attachment is included in customer email communication, alongside its availability on product or order pages.
Installation and setup
After adding the Pro plugin to a WooCommerce website, create an attachment from the relevant product settings. Enter its name and description, choose a file upload or external URL, select the products or categories, and configure visibility, order status, and expiry options. Review the attachment on the product or order details page and adjust its email setting when required.
Some document types may not be allowed by WordPress for security reasons. The source notes that ALLOW_UNFILTERED_UPLOADS can be added to wp-config.php when allowing all upload types is required.
