Organize a growing WordPress media library
Enhanced Media Library PRO is designed for sites that manage a large number of media files. It extends the WordPress media library with flexible categorization, filtering, bulk editing, galleries, playlists, and file-type management. The interface is designed to work within the WordPress UI, so media organization remains part of the familiar administration workflow.
The PRO edition adds extra tools for handling media at scale, including unlimited and super-fast bulk editing, advanced search, dynamic galleries and playlists, and automatic categorization for media attached to posts.
Flexible categorization and filtering
Organize media by creating unlimited categories and tags, or define unlimited custom taxonomies in a few clicks. You can also assign third-party taxonomies to media items. Filters can be configured to show or hide data, author, and taxonomy controls, with separate filter settings available for each taxonomy.
Filtering can include or exclude child categories, which helps structure large collections without requiring a flat list of labels. Advanced search lets you filter media by typing the first letters of an item’s name in the search field.
Faster media management
- Use unlimited bulk editing for more convenient updates across large selections.
- Choose whether media items display their title, filename, or caption.
- Reorder media directly in the library with drag and drop.
- Use infinite scroll or configure manageable loads per page.
- Automatically categorize media items associated with posts.
Dynamic galleries and playlists
Enhanced Media Library PRO supports user-friendly dynamic galleries and playlists configured with dropdowns and checkboxes rather than requiring shortcode coding. Additional parameters for the WordPress gallery and playlist shortcodes can limit content by media category or another taxonomy, month, year, or item limit.
This makes it practical to create focused media displays for selected collections, time periods, or taxonomy terms while keeping media organization separate from presentation.
Manage MIME types and settings
The MIME Types Management tools let you add or remove file types and allow or disallow uploads. A file type can also be incorporated into media filters when needed.
Plugin settings can be exported, imported, or restored. When moving a media library to another website, WordPress’s built-in content export and import can be used for the content, while the plugin’s settings transfer helps reproduce the same Enhanced Media Library configuration.
WordPress workflow and multisite use
The plugin supports custom and code-registered taxonomies, REST API access, and WordPress hooks for media taxonomies and media items. It does not use custom database tables, and deactivation leaves media items and taxonomies in place.
Enhanced Media Library is multisite compatible. Network administrators can activate it across the network and choose which options are available to administrators. The PRO license key is activated once for the whole network.
Installation
Install Enhanced Media Library PRO through the WordPress plugin workflow, activate it, and open its settings in the WordPress administration area. Create taxonomies, configure filters, and adjust media options before organizing your library. For a multisite installation, network-activate the plugin and configure the options available to administrators.
