Organize long WordPress content
Easy Table of Contents Pro helps you create navigable tables of contents for posts, pages, custom post types, and custom taxonomy descriptions. It analyzes headings in your content and can generate a structured table based on the heading levels you choose.
The plugin works with the Classic Editor, Gutenberg, Divi, Elementor, WPBakery Page Builder, and Visual Composer. You can enable the table of contents for selected post types and choose whether it should be inserted automatically. Custom post types are supported when their content is displayed with the the_content() template tag.
Flexible display and navigation
Configure how the table of contents looks and behaves through settings for placement, appearance, and heading selection. Built-in themes provide ready-made styling, while custom color options let you define the border, background, and link colors.
- Choose none, decimal, numeric, or Roman counter formats.
- Display headings hierarchically, with lower-priority headings nested beneath higher-priority headings.
- Allow visitors to hide the table of contents, with the option to keep it hidden by default.
- Enable smooth scrolling.
- Exclude headings globally or on individual posts.
- Preserve line breaks in the table of contents.
- Use the table of contents without anchor links in the URL.
- Show a table of contents based on a dynamic paragraph count.
Pro tools for editors and site builders
The Pro edition adds dedicated ways to place and control tables of contents. A Gutenberg block lets you create one without coding or a shortcode, while the Elementor widget provides a similar workflow inside Elementor.
For long pages, Fixed/Sticky TOC keeps the navigation visible as visitors scroll. Its appearance can be customized with theme design options. Sticky heading highlighting can also identify the section currently being viewed, and the widget can automatically highlight visible sections with a configurable highlight color.
Additional tools include AMP support, ACF support for creating tables of contents from custom fields, and a View More option that initially displays a selected number of headings before revealing the remaining entries. You can also show estimated read time for posts and pages and collapse or expand subheadings.
Placement and content control
When inserting the table of contents into content is not suitable, use the supplied widget in a theme sidebar. The widget supports an affixed or stuck position, although its setup may depend on the theme’s item selector. Tables of contents can also be enabled or disabled on individual posts, with per-post heading selection and exclusions.
A migration tool can import settings from other plugins, including Table of Content Plus. The plugin also supports Rank Math and adds SiteNavigation Schema. Developers can use the available action hooks and filters for further customization.
Installation
Install Easy Table of Contents Pro in your WordPress site, then use its settings to choose supported post types, heading levels, insertion options, appearance, and navigation behavior. If you use Gutenberg or Elementor, create the table of contents through the available block or widget. Review individual post settings when different heading selections or exclusions are needed.
