Temporary WordPress access without shared credentials
TLWP Pro is a paid edition of Temporary Login Without Password for situations where another person needs short-term access to a WordPress site. Instead of sharing a regular username and password, you create a temporary login link and send it to a developer, support agent, guest editor, or other approved user. The recipient clicks the link and is logged in without setting up an account or remembering a password.
When creating temporary access, you choose the WordPress role and set an expiry. Expiry options can be based on an hour, day, week, month, or a custom date. You can also redirect the temporary user to a specific page after login and set a language for that user.
Pro features for more oversight
TLWP Pro adds three controls for managing temporary access more closely:
- Limit link usage: Set a cap on how many times a temporary login link can be used.
- Instant admin alerts: Receive a notification every time a temporary login is accessed.
- Full activity log: Review the actions performed by each temporary user.
Together, these features help site owners and teams define how a link may be used, know when it has been accessed, and review activity afterward. The plugin also shows the last login time and the number of times each temporary user accessed the site.
Useful workflows for teams and agencies
- Developer support: Create a time-limited access link so a developer can investigate a WordPress issue without receiving a regular login.
- Agency maintenance: Provide client-site access for support or maintenance, choose the appropriate role, and review the activity log afterward.
- Guest editing: Give a writer or editor temporary access for a defined review or content task.
- Controlled handoff: Limit how often a link can be used and receive an alert when the recipient signs in.
Temporary users can be deactivated manually from the Temporary Login area before their expiry date. Deactivation revokes access immediately while keeping the activity log available for review. If the same account is needed later, it can be reactivated. Deleting a temporary user removes the login access and account, so review the activity log first if you need to retain its record.
Installation and access workflow
Install and activate Temporary Login Without Password, then open the Temporary Login area in the WordPress dashboard. Create a temporary user, assign a role, choose the expiry, and configure any redirect or language settings. For Pro oversight, set a usage limit, enable instant admin alerts, and use the full activity log to review actions. Share the generated login link with the intended recipient, then deactivate or delete the temporary user when access is no longer required.
