Schedule changes to WordPress content
PublishPress Future Pro is designed for sites that need content to change automatically at a defined time. It supports posts, pages, and other WordPress content types, allowing you to plan actions while editing content instead of relying on manual follow-up.
Future actions can be selected from the right sidebar when editing a post. You can set a date for a change and choose what should happen when that date arrives. This approach is useful for time-sensitive publishing, content reviews, temporary announcements, and editorial maintenance.
Choose the action that fits your workflow
PublishPress Future provides several actions for scheduled content changes. A post can be changed to Draft, deleted, moved to the Trash, or changed to Private. You can also enable or disable the option to stick a post to the top of the blog.
Category changes are available as well. You can remove all existing categories and add new ones, keep all existing categories while adding new ones, or keep existing categories except for those specified in the scheduled change. PublishPress Future Pro also supports moving a post to a custom status.
Build multi-step Action Workflows
The Pro edition adds Action Workflows for more advanced content automation. A workflow can use multiple steps and schedules, allowing a single content process to perform more than one action over time.
- Email the site administrator when a post is updated.
- Change a post to Trash one week after publication.
- Move a post to Draft and add a category 15 days after publication.
- Email the author one year after publication to ask them to review the content.
These examples show how workflows can combine timing, status changes, category updates, and email notifications. You can use the same general approach to create a content lifecycle that matches your editorial process.
Connect actions to metadata
PublishPress Future Pro can schedule changes based on metadata, enabling integrations with Advanced Custom Fields and other plugins. For example, an Advanced Custom Fields date field can control the date used for a Future Action. This provides a way to manage scheduling data through connected fields rather than relying only on the standard editing interface.
Show action dates to readers
PublishPress Future can display an expiry or action date inside an article, with the date added at the bottom of the post. Shortcodes can also show the expiration date within your content. Several formatting options are available for customizing shortcode output.
Set defaults and notifications
You can choose default actions for each post type from the PublishPress Future settings. The plugin can also send email notifications when content is changed, with email controls available in the general settings.
Installation and setup
Install PublishPress Future Pro in WordPress, then open the plugin settings to configure general options, email notifications, and defaults for supported post types. While editing content, select an action date and action from the right sidebar, or create an Action Workflow for multi-step scheduling. If using metadata integrations, connect the relevant field from Advanced Custom Fields or another supported plugin to control the Future Action date.
