Self-host web fonts with less manual work
OMGF Pro helps WordPress sites move web fonts onto their own server instead of relying on direct connections to external font servers. The plugin detects Google Fonts, Bunny Fonts, and Jetpack CDN font resources and downloads them locally. This can remove related DNS lookups and render-blocking requests, while supporting a setup intended to address the external loading of Google Fonts.
The Pro edition is built for sites where fonts may be loaded through themes, plugins, page builders, inline styles, or JavaScript. It extends detection beyond the basic font sources and provides automated optimization options for choosing what to preload, what to remove, and how fallback fonts should behave while web fonts load.
Measured optimization
Smart Optimize measures real visitor pageviews to identify the fonts, subsets, and weights used above the fold. It can then preload the resources that matter and strip out resources that are not needed. This replaces manual estimation with information gathered from actual page usage.
Magic Fallbacks generates system font fallbacks using each Google Font’s metrics. The generated settings use size-adjust and ascent-override to match the intended font more closely while the web font loads, helping reduce visible text movement during the loading process.
Deeper font detection
OMGF Pro can reach font sources that are not always exposed through standard stylesheet references. Its detection includes inline blocks containing @font-face or @import, local and externally hosted stylesheets using @import, Web Font Loader, asynchronously injected Google Fonts, WordPress’s Font Manager or Font Library, variable fonts, and Material Icons.
- Process fonts loaded at runtime with JavaScript.
- Detect variable font resources using the Google Fonts CSS2 format.
- Handle Material Icons as part of the font setup.
- Apply font-display control across every font on the site, rather than only Google Fonts.
- Replace font families with system fonts entirely when that suits the site.
Site-wide and developer controls
The plugin supports automatic Multisite and WPML operation. Fonts and stylesheets can be served from a custom CDN or path, and stylesheets can be whitelabeled by removing OMGF branding and comments for smaller file sizes. Developer Mode is available for migrations between development, staging, and production environments.
OMGF Pro is designed to work alongside optimization plugins and page builders including Autoptimize, FlyingPress, Kinsta, LiteSpeed Cache, SiteGround Speed Optimizer, W3 Total Cache, WP Fastest Cache, WP-Optimize, WP Rocket, WP Super Cache, Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, Bricks, Oxygen, and Visual Composer.
Installation and workflow
Install OMGF Pro in WordPress and let it scan the site for supported font sources. Review detected families, subsets, and weights, then use Smart Optimize and the available font controls to refine the setup. Check the resulting pages and performance data after changes, especially when themes, plugins, or page builders introduce new fonts.
