Bring uploads into the Media Library
Media Sync Pro examines files in the WordPress uploads directory and shows which files are already present in the Media Library and which are not. You can select files that are sitting outside the database and import them so they become available through the Media Library.
This is useful when files have been uploaded to the uploads directory through FTP or another process but have not been added to WordPress. Uploading files directly to the directory can also avoid file size limitations associated with other upload methods. Media Sync Pro then provides a way to select those files and add them to the Media Library.
Scan large or changing directories
The revised incremental scan is designed to scan and import an unlimited number of files. Instead of requiring the entire directory structure to be handled in one operation, the scan can work incrementally. This is intended to help address memory and timeout challenges that may occur when many files are present.
You can also rescan a single directory. A quick single-directory rescan helps you look for newly added files or apply a different filter without reloading the whole page. This is practical for sites where uploads are added regularly or where files are organized across several directories.
Use advanced filters
Media Sync Pro includes advanced filters for controlling which files appear in scan results. Customize the default filters, search for a specific file type such as images or videos, skip files using tailored rules, or enter a custom pattern. The filters can also be used to modify how commonly ignored files are handled.
The plugin commonly ignores hidden files such as .DS_Store and .htaccess, WordPress-generated thumbnails, scaled images, optimized WebP versions of original images, and retina thumbnails. Pro filters can be used to modify and enhance these rules when your workflow requires different handling.
Automate imports and review activity
Schedule automatic imports by selecting a desired interval. Media Sync Pro can then automatically import newly found files according to the configured scan and filter settings. Import logs provide a history of manual and scheduled imports, helping you review what has been processed.
Access to the plugin can be limited to a specific WordPress role. This gives site administrators a way to control which role can use the scanning and importing tools.
Installation and first import
Install and activate Media Sync Pro, then open its settings and configure the scan, filters, schedule, and access role as required. Start with one file first to confirm that the result matches your expectations. When testing, make sure the Dry Run option is not enabled if you want files to appear in the Media Library.
If an import remains stuck or spins endlessly, the source information recommends reviewing the server’s max_execution_time and memory_limit settings. If the plugin does not behave as expected, enable debugging in Settings > Media Sync and inspect the Network tab in Chrome DevTools before reporting the findings through the available support section.
