Optimize more than standard WordPress images
EWWW Image Optimizer Premium extends image optimization with higher-capacity processing, PDF optimization, responsive delivery tools, and performance features. It is designed for WordPress sites that need to manage images across the Media Library, themes, galleries, and other configured folders.
Premium includes 5x premium image optimization, automatic scaling for images even when they appear in external CSS, and one-click WebP and AVIF conversion and delivery. Enhanced responsive images use correct dimensions for different devices, while High-DPI delivery supports screens with 2x and 3x pixel density.
Image formats and media workflows
The plugin supports WebP image optimization and provides several ways to deliver WebP versions to compatible browsers, including Apache-style rewrite rules, JavaScript WebP Rewriting, and Picture WebP Rewriting. With the Easy IO CDN, images can be compressed, scaled to fit page and device dimensions, lazy loaded, and converted to WebP and AVIF formats.
Premium also adds PDF optimization, watermarking, and 30-day cloud-based backups. The broader image workflow can include resizing at upload or in bulk, controlling individual WordPress thumbnails, preserving GIF animations in thumbnails, adjusting JPG and WebP quality, and converting images between formats such as GIF, PNG, and JPG.
Site-wide optimization and delivery
Use the Bulk Optimizer from a single page to process the Media Library, theme images, and selected folders. You can configure folders within the WordPress installation, including folders used by supported galleries, sliders, avatars, and attachments. Scheduled optimization and WP-CLI operation are also available for ongoing workflows.
Premium CDN delivery covers images, CSS, JavaScript, and fonts, with a custom domain name option. This helps place media and selected site assets into a delivery workflow alongside automatic image scaling, lazy loading, and next-generation format conversion.
Performance tools included with Premium
Premium plans include the SWIS Performance plugin. Its tools include page caching, long browser-cache lifetimes, JavaScript and CSS deferral, JavaScript and CSS minification, and Critical CSS generation to help prevent layout shifting.
- Optimize font display and self-host Google Fonts.
- Preload assets such as fonts and LCP images.
- Reduce unused JavaScript and CSS.
- Manage speculative loading.
Server and compatibility considerations
EWWW Image Optimizer can use tools on the web server, including jpegtran, optipng, pngout, pngquant, gifsicle, and cwebp. This local mode requires the PHP exec() function and a compatible Linux, Windows, MacOS, or FreeBSD server. If the server is not compatible, the source describes lossless JPG optimization and WebP conversion through the Compress API.
The plugin has been tested with thousands of plugins and themes, including BuddyPress, Cloudinary, FooGallery, NextGEN Gallery, WPML, WP Offload Media, and WooCommerce-related site workflows through compatible extensions listed by the publisher.
Installation and setup
Install EWWW Image Optimizer Premium in WordPress, then configure the optimization, format delivery, scaling, CDN, backup, watermark, and performance options that match your site. Use Bulk Optimize for existing media and scheduled optimization or WP-CLI when you need a repeatable workflow.
