Organize documents in a searchable library
Document Library Pro is a WordPress document library and download manager for presenting files in an organized, user-friendly format. It is available alongside Essentials and Advanced plans, with the paid plans adding capabilities for organizations that manage larger or more structured document collections.
Visitors can search documents, sort columns, use category filters, and download files directly from the library. The plugin supports many file types, including PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, OpenDocument formats, images, videos, and Apple document formats. You can add document data and choose which information appears to users.
Flexible library layouts
Display documents in searchable, sortable tables or use the additional grid layout options available in the paid plans. Libraries can also be structured into collapsible folders, creating a clearer browsing experience for collections with multiple sections or categories.
Available columns can include the file name, title, image, content, date, categories, download button, file size, file type, excerpt, status, last modified date, and author. Paid features also support custom fields and custom taxonomies. Column headings can be renamed to suit the terminology used by your organization.
Manage files efficiently
Document Library Pro adds bulk upload tools for larger collections, including drag-and-drop file upload, CSV import, and importing files from the Media Library. The plugin adds a dedicated Documents section to the Media Library, making it easier to manage document files separately from images and other media.
You can list every document or create focused libraries by category or status. The instant AJAX search box helps users find files quickly, while the search-on-click option lets them filter a library by selecting a document category.
Use documents from different sources
In addition to files stored in the Media Library, paid plans can include documents hosted on third-party services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, and Office 365. This is useful when a library needs to present files that are maintained outside the WordPress Media Library.
The plugin can also create an individual page for each document. This gives each file a dedicated location with information such as its filename and summary description before the visitor downloads it.
Control access to libraries
Private document libraries can be protected with simple password protection or limited to particular roles or user accounts. Access can be applied globally or organized around categories and individual libraries, helping you present public and restricted documents in the same WordPress installation.
Installation and placement
- Install the paid document library plugin on your WordPress site.
- Add documents, file information, and the corresponding uploads, or import files using the available bulk tools.
- Configure the table or grid layout, columns, search behavior, categories, and access settings.
- Use the built-in Document Library page or place a library anywhere with the [doc_library] shortcode.
Shortcode options let you override global settings for individual libraries, so different areas of a site can present documents with their own display choices.
