Targeted widget areas without coding
Content Aware Sidebars Pro is designed for WordPress sites that need different widget areas in different places. Instead of assigning one sidebar everywhere, you can create tailored areas for posts, pages, custom post types, categories, authors, archives, forums, profiles, languages, and other supported contexts.
The sidebar editor provides a user-friendly way to choose where, when, and to whom each widget area should appear. Conditions can be combined, allowing you to target content using more than one requirement, such as a category together with a particular author. You can also select sidebars directly while editing a post or page.
Pro controls for placement and visibility
The Pro edition adds display options for Advanced Custom Fields data, Meta Box data, URLs with wildcards, referrer URLs, date archives, content by publish date, and BuddyPress groups. Random widget areas are also supported when you want variation in the areas displayed.
Widget areas can be inserted after a chosen number or percentage of paragraphs, or intelligently added through theme hooks without coding. The Pro tools also include sticky sidebars and widget areas, with the source describing this option as using no jQuery and no bloat. Time and weekday scheduling lets you show an area only during selected time ranges on specified days.
Design and widget management
The Widget Area Designer lets you add responsive widget columns and adjust colors, backgrounds, padding, and other presentation settings. You can modify the HTML and CSS classes of widget areas, widgets, and widget titles without writing code, helping you adapt the output to your theme.
For ongoing administration, Automatic Widgets Backup helps restore changed or deleted widgets. Widget Cleaner can disable and remove unused widgets. Extended User Visibility provides controls for showing or hiding widget areas according to user roles, BuddyPress groups, and other supported visibility settings. Sidebar Visibility can hide widget areas from logged-out users.
The Container Widget turns widget areas into reusable blocks, so the same widgets can be shown in more than one place. Totem provides a smart floating button for widgets, while 1-Click Sidebar Activation helps activate or deactivate widget areas quickly. Live Search and the split-screen widget manager support faster administration when a site contains many areas.
Practical uses
Use the plugin to create product-focused areas for WooCommerce, member-focused areas for BuddyPress, forum areas for bbPress, or language-specific areas through supported translation integrations. It also supports integrations including Easy Digital Downloads, Pods, Polylang, TranslatePress, Transposh, Weglot, and WPML. The plugin can work alongside page builders such as Elementor, SiteOrigin Page Builder, Beaver Builder, and Visual Composer.
Installation and setup
Install and activate the paid edition in WordPress, then open the Content Aware Sidebars settings. Create a widget area, add its display conditions, configure any schedule or visibility rules, and assign widgets. Use the sidebar selector while editing content, or insert an area through a supported theme hook or paragraph placement option. Preview the result and adjust its design settings as needed.
