Italian invoicing data for WooCommerce
WooCommerce Italian Add-on Premium extends a WooCommerce store with checkout fields and order data needed for Italian invoicing workflows. It adds the customer’s tax code or VAT number to the checkout page and lets the customer choose between an invoice and a receipt. The information collected is stored in WooCommerce orders, where it can be exported to an external management system.
The premium add-on also supports the collection of information used for Italian electronic invoicing. When that option is enabled, customers requesting an invoice and identified as Italian can enter a Recipient Code or PEC address. These fields are hidden in other cases. For billing addresses outside the European Union, the store can choose to exclude the VAT number or tax code fields.
Invoice and receipt choices
Customers can select whether they require an invoice or a receipt during checkout. When an invoice is selected, the VAT number field is required according to the supplied product information. The selected document type and customer details are recorded with the order, providing structured information for later processing.
If the customer selects a receipt, automatic invoice numbering is suspended and resumes only for subsequent invoices. This allows the document choice made during checkout to be reflected in the store’s invoicing workflow.
Premium XML export
The Premium edition provides verified XML export in FPA1.2 format, compliant with the specifications of Italy’s Sistema di Interscambio. The exported data can be used with other management software or directly with the Agenzia delle Entrate’s Fatture e Corrispettivi service, as described in the supplied information.
The add-on stores the collected values in WooCommerce order data. The listed fields include the customer’s tax code or VAT number, the Recipient Code or PEC address, the selected invoice or receipt type, and the customer type identified from the entered tax information. This can support an organized handoff to an external administrative workflow.
Receipt and invoice templates
The add-on includes a receipt template that can be customized. To adapt it, copy the receipt.php file from the plugin’s Simple template directory into the active theme or child theme, then edit the copied file as needed. The supplied instructions identify the source location as the plugin’s template directory and the destination as the theme.
For automatic PDF invoice generation, the add-on can optionally be used with Ewout Fernhout’s PDF Invoices & Packing Slips for WooCommerce plugin. That plugin can number invoices automatically and print or send them as PDF files. The Italian add-on can also be used without an automatic invoice-generation plugin; the collected information remains in WooCommerce orders and can be exported to an external system.
Installation and setup
Install the add-on in the WooCommerce store, then configure the checkout fields and invoice or receipt choice for the store’s Italian sales process. If electronic invoicing data collection is required, enable that option and review when the Recipient Code or PEC field appears. For document output, configure the receipt template in the theme or child theme, and optionally associate the add-on with a PDF invoice plugin.
