Automate WooCommerce order completion
Order Status Control for WooCommerce helps shop administrators decide when orders should be marked as completed. WooCommerce normally completes downloadable products automatically, but virtual products are not handled in the same way by default. This plugin adds a way to complete virtual-only orders and provides additional completion rules for different store workflows.
The available behavior is configured from the Order Status Control option under WooCommerce > Settings > General. This gives administrators a central place to select the order-completion method that fits the products and payment flow used by the store.
Completion methods
Default WooCommerce order method
Keep the default WooCommerce order behavior when the store does not need an alternative completion rule. This option is suitable when the existing handling of downloadable and other order types already matches the shop’s process.
Orders containing only virtual products
Choose this method to mark orders as completed when they contain virtual products and no physical products. It is designed for stores selling products that do not require shipping or physical fulfillment, while leaving orders containing other product types outside this specific rule.
Orders that have paid successfully
With this method, orders that have successfully received payment are marked as completed. It can apply to orders containing physical products as well as virtual products, making the payment result the deciding factor for completion.
All orders
The all-orders option changes the status after the customer reaches the thank-you page, regardless of what the order contains or how it was paid. The source describes this as applying to orders with virtual or physical products, completed payment, or offline payment.
Practical store workflows
For a digital shop, the virtual-products setting can help keep completed orders from waiting for a physical fulfillment step. A store that wants payment to determine completion can use the successfully-paid option for both physical and virtual product orders. Where the shop requires every order to move to completed after the customer reaches the thank-you page, the all-orders method provides that broader rule.
The default method remains available when no change to standard WooCommerce behavior is required. These alternatives let administrators align the order status process with the way their shop handles digital products, paid orders, physical products, and offline payments.
