Move WordPress media to remote storage
WP Offload Media Pro automatically copies images, videos, documents, and other files added through the WordPress media uploader to Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces, or Google Cloud Storage. After a file is copied, the plugin replaces its media URL with the relevant remote storage URL. If Amazon CloudFront or another CDN is configured, the media can instead be served through that CDN, including a custom domain where configured.
This approach is useful for WordPress sites that want their uploaded media delivered from a remote storage service or CDN while continuing to add files through the familiar WordPress media workflow. Image thumbnails are copied to the selected bucket and delivered through the appropriate remote URL as well.
Pro tools for existing and active media
The Pro upgrade includes an upload tool for existing files in the Media Library. This is important when adding the plugin to an established website, because the standard process does not copy older media files or serve them from the remote bucket. The upload tool helps handle those existing media files rather than limiting offloading to new uploads.
New files are uploaded to the WordPress server first and then copied to the selected storage service. Direct uploads to Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces, or Google Cloud Storage are not supported by this plugin. An option is available to automatically remove files from the server after they have been copied to the bucket.
Manage offloaded files and delivery
WP Offload Media Pro adds control for offloaded files from the WordPress Media Library. This provides a practical way to work with media that has been copied to remote storage while keeping the library as part of the normal WordPress content workflow.
The Assets Pull addon can serve CSS, JavaScript, and font files through CloudFront or another CDN. This extends the delivery options beyond images, videos, documents, and other media added through the uploader. CloudFront can also be used for media delivery when it has been configured with the plugin.
Integrations and support
The Pro upgrade includes WooCommerce integration and Easy Digital Downloads integration. These options are useful for sites that use WordPress ecommerce tools alongside media uploads and digital content. The Pro upgrade also includes priority email support, while email support is not provided for the free version.
WP Offload Media does not include image optimization features. However, the product supports integration with EWWW Image Optimizer, and the source information identifies that integration as officially supported. Image optimization therefore remains a separate concern from media offloading and remote delivery.
Getting started
Add WP Offload Media Pro to the WordPress site where media should be offloaded, then select the supported remote storage destination: Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces, or Google Cloud Storage. Configure CloudFront or another CDN if remote files should be delivered through it. For an existing site, use the Pro upload tool for the current Media Library, then continue uploading new files through the WordPress media uploader.
