Tailwind CSS inside WordPress
WindPress Pro integrates Tailwind CSS with WordPress so you can use Tailwind utilities while working with the WordPress ecosystem. It supports Tailwind CSS 3.x and 4.x, giving teams a choice of supported Tailwind versions for their design workflow. The plugin is platform agnostic and is designed to work with visual and page-building tools rather than limiting the experience to one editor.
WindPress is plug and play, with no setup required to begin using Tailwind CSS in WordPress. It includes a default Tailwind CSS configuration that can be customized to suit a project. The settings experience is simplified and intuitive, while the dashboard is built on the WordPress REST API and a modern JavaScript framework for a responsive interface.
Tools for building with utility classes
WindPress provides editor-focused features through its integrations. As you type, Tailwind CSS class names can be suggested automatically. A variable picker lets you select theme colors, fonts, and other variables from a panel. Tailwind CSS HTML can be converted to native elements in the editor, and classes can be sorted directly in the input field.
When reviewing a design, hover over classes to see their complete outputted CSS and a preview of the design canvas. A floating Ubiquitous Panel provides quick access to WindPress settings from anywhere on the page, helping keep configuration and styling tools close to the editing workflow.
Builder and editor integrations
WindPress Pro is presented with integrations for a range of WordPress editors and builders. These include Gutenberg and the Block Editor, GreenShift, Kadence, WP LiveCanvas, Timber, and the following Pro integrations: Blockstudio, Breakdance, Bricks, Builderius, Etch, Meta Box Views, Oxygen 6 and Classic, and WPCodeBox 2. The source also lists Elementor, Divi, Pinegrow, and Zion Builder as planned or in progress.
The integration approach is extensible. WindPress provides an API for building custom integrations with Tailwind CSS, allowing developers to connect their own tools to the plugin’s workflow. Tailwind CSS plugins are supported and can be added in the tailwind.config.js file.
CSS generation and performance workflow
WindPress uses caching and generates the final optimized CSS file in the browser without server-side tools. The source describes this process as keeping data from being transferred over the network. The plugin is also described as having a small footprint and a responsive dashboard experience.
Installation and first use
Install WindPress Pro in WordPress and open its settings from the plugin interface or the floating panel. Begin with the default Tailwind CSS configuration, then customize it as required. Select the Tailwind version for the project, connect the relevant editor or builder integration, and use the class suggestions, variable picker, previews, sorting tools, and custom configuration during design work.
