Advanced WordPress role management
User Role Editor Pro extends WordPress user-role and capability management for sites that need more detailed control over what users can see and do. Create roles from scratch or copy an existing role, adjust capabilities with checkboxes, assign multiple roles to one user, and manage permissions for individual users.
The plugin also lets you add capabilities and remove unnecessary capabilities left by uninstalled plugins. A default role can be selected for newly created users, while unused custom roles can be deleted when no users are assigned to them.
Control the WordPress interface
Pro modules help tailor the administration and front-end experience for different roles. You can block selected administration menu items for a role and hide selected front-end menu items from visitors, logged-in users, or specific roles.
<
- Block selected widgets under the Appearance menu for a role.
- Show widgets on the front end for selected roles.
- Block selected meta boxes in the dashboard, posts, pages, and custom post types.
- View administration back-end page permissions.
Manage content and plugin access
Use access controls to manage who can edit posts, pages, and custom post types. Permissions can be defined using posts, authors, and taxonomies by ID list. The Pro edition also supports restrictions on viewing posts and pages for selected roles.
Additional controls cover plugin activation and deactivation operations. For sites using Gravity Forms, access can be managed on a per-form basis. A shortcode can display enclosed content only to users with selected roles, making it possible to present role-specific information within site content.
Multisite tools and role portability
User Role Editor supports WordPress multisite environments. Roles and user permissions can be managed through Network Admin, and one-click synchronization can apply changes across the whole network. The export and import module lets you export a user role to a local file and import it into another WordPress site or another site in a multisite network.
The “Other roles access” module defines which other roles a user with the current role may see in WordPress, including role dropdowns used when assigning a role while editing a user profile.
Using the Pro edition
A practical workflow begins by selecting or creating a role, reviewing its capabilities, and then adding the interface, content, plugin, form, or multisite restrictions required for that role. Review the resulting permissions before assigning the role to users. User Role Editor Pro is advertisement free and includes premium support.
Installation
Install the User Role Editor Pro plugin in WordPress, activate it, and open its role-management settings. Create or select a role, configure the required capabilities and Pro modules, then save the changes. On multisite installations, use Network Admin and the available network controls when managing permissions across sites.
