Password protection for WordPress content
PPWP Pro extends WordPress password protection with tools for securing selected content or broader areas of a website. It can protect pages, posts, categories, custom post types, WooCommerce products, custom fields, custom page templates, and files outside the Media Library.
The plugin supports multiple passwords and lets you control how visitors unlock protected content. Passwords are stored in post meta, and the plugin sets a cookie to allow access to protected pages or posts. Media files attached to protected pages or posts are not protected by this plugin and may remain accessible to anyone with the direct link.
Protect complete pages or selected sections
You can protect an entire page or post, or show a teaser while placing selected sections behind a password form. Partial Content Protection is designed for premium content previews, while Section Protection can add protected areas to custom post types and templates created with page builders such as Elementor and Divi.
PPWP Pro also supports page-builder integrations for Elementor, Beaver Builder, WPBakery Page Builder, and Divi Builder. These modules allow you to set passwords, whitelisted roles, and password form options through the available user interface. Elementor templates, Beaver Builder rows and columns, and page templates can also be protected.
Flexible passwords and access rules
- Create unlimited passwords for pages and posts.
- Create passwords for individual user roles or use the same password for multiple roles.
- Use master passwords to unlock content that has already been password protected.
- Create wildcard passwords and Quick Access Links.
- Automatically protect sub pages with one password.
- Create multiple passwords for protected categories or use one password across multiple pages.
- Set password expiration and restrict usage by WordPress user or IP address with the relevant extension.
Master passwords can be activated, deactivated, deleted, and restricted by usage, time, or user role. Original passwords assigned to individual content continue to work alongside master passwords.
Improve the visitor experience
Ajax unlocking can reveal protected content without a page refresh. Cookie expiration can be adjusted, or session cookies can be used so visitors must enter the password again after closing their browser. Password forms and messages can be customized through the WordPress Customizer, including headings, descriptions, error messages, placeholders, and button text.
Google reCAPTCHA v2 or v3 can help prevent password abuse by bots. The plugin also provides options for Quick Access Links, redirects after site-wide password entry, and passwordless authentication through form integrations. Depending on the selected extensions, visitors may unlock content after form submission or use Contact Form 7 in place of a password form.
Management and integrations
PPWP Pro includes tools for tracking password usage, including login time and IP address, and for importing or exporting passwords. The Password Suite extension can require a password together with a username or email. Group Password Protection can unlock content at once, while multilingual support works with WPML, Polylang, and Loco Translate.
Installation and setup
Install PPWP Pro on your WordPress website, choose the content or sections to protect, and configure passwords, roles, forms, cookies, and optional extensions. Review the protection scope carefully, especially when pages include media files, because attached images and uploads are not protected. The Pro membership plans include access to extensions and priority support.
