More flexible Contact Form 7 workflows
Conditional Fields Pro is a paid extension for Contact Form 7 that adds advanced form capabilities to the Conditional Fields workflow. It is intended for forms that need more than a simple set of always-visible inputs, such as applications, service requests, questionnaires, registrations, and other forms with changing requirements.
The underlying conditional-fields system lets you place fields inside groups that are hidden by default. You then define conditions that determine when those groups appear. This keeps a form focused by showing relevant fields only after a visitor provides the information needed to decide what comes next.
Advanced Pro features
- Repeatable fields: Use repeaters when visitors need to provide multiple entries of the same general type.
- Multistep forms: Divide a longer form into multiple steps instead of presenting every section at once.
- Calculated fields: Add calculations to workflows that require values to be derived from submitted form information.
- Advanced conditions with JavaScript functions: Build more flexible conditional behavior for advanced form requirements.
- Multiple file upload: Let a form workflow accommodate multiple uploaded files.
Conditional groups and email content
In Contact Form 7, add the “Conditional fields Group” tag and place the relevant fields between the group’s start and end tags. The group remains hidden until a matching condition makes it visible. Groups can be nested, allowing one conditional section to contain another.
Conditional visibility can also be reflected in email messages. Email content may be wrapped with group tags so that information appears when the corresponding group is visible. To display content only when a group is hidden, use the inverted group notation with an exclamation mark. This helps keep notification emails aligned with the form path selected by the visitor.
Important form setup details
Hidden fields are hidden rather than removed, and all fields are submitted when the form is sent. For that reason, every field must have a unique name, even when two fields are placed in groups that are not visible at the same time. Unique names help prevent incorrect or unexpected submitted values.
If conditional groups remain visible or do not respond, a JavaScript error may be preventing the conditional code from running. The plugin’s scripts load at the bottom of the page, so an earlier JavaScript error can affect operation. Browser developer tools can help identify the issue. Testing by gradually disabling plugins and changing the theme can also help locate a conflict.
Installation and configuration
Install the Conditional Fields components alongside Contact Form 7, edit the required form, and add conditional groups around the fields that should be controlled. Open the “Conditional fields” tab to create one or more conditions, then configure the Pro features required for the form, such as repeaters, steps, calculations, JavaScript functions, or multiple uploads. Review the related email template and use matching group tags where conditional email content is needed.
