Build richer archive pages
Category Editor Pro helps you move beyond plain lists on WordPress category, tag, and terms archive pages. It replaces the standard category description field with a TinyMCE-enabled editor, giving you more control over the content shown above lists of posts or products.
Use HTML, shortcodes, media, and formatting options to create a more developed archive page. A category or tag archive can present introductory information, imagery, links, and other content before visitors reach the post or product list. This makes the archive suitable for blog navigation, product browsing, and search engine optimisation work.
Paid capabilities
- Additional description area: Add a second description area below the list of blog posts or products. This is useful when you want to provide substantial supporting content without placing the entire introduction before the list.
- Expanded social image support: The paid version adds an og:image option for WordPress tags and WooCommerce product tag archives. The plugin also provides this option for WordPress categories and WooCommerce product categories.
- Graphical category and tag menus: Assign images to categories and use the graphical menu shortcode to display linked category items. The feature can also work with tags in the Pro version.
- Additional shortcodes: Use shortcodes for category displays, including options to limit the number of items, select categories by ID, show parent categories, or show child categories of the current category.
Practical uses
For a blog, create a welcoming introduction for a topic archive, add supporting media, or display a visual category menu on a post or page. For a WooCommerce site, add explanatory content above products and further detail below them, while using archive images for social sharing.
The graphical menu uses assigned category images and links visitors to the relevant categories. You can display all available categories, limit the total number shown, or choose specific categories with comma-separated category IDs. The available CSS selectors include .catimgmain, .catimmgeach, and .cattitle, allowing the graphical list to be styled with additional CSS.
Theme and site compatibility
Category Editor is designed for themes written to WordPress standards that call the WordPress category, tag, or terms description. It is described as compatible with WooCommerce and other ecommerce plugins. The archive content appears where the active theme outputs the relevant description.
Installation and setup
Install Category Editor Pro in WordPress, then open the relevant category, tag, or term editing screen. Use the editor to prepare the top description area, assign images where needed, and add the supplied shortcodes to posts, pages, or archive content. For the graphical menu, select or upload an image, copy its file URL, and paste that URL into the category image field. Review the archive page to confirm that the theme calls the description area.
The paid version also includes quick support Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 5:00pm UK time, according to the supplied product information.
