Mobile-specific content without redirects
Specific Content For Mobile Pro lets you create content designed for mobile devices while keeping the same public URL used on desktop. Instead of redirecting visitors or generating AMP markup, the plugin replaces the desktop content with a related mobile version when the page or post is viewed on a mobile device.
This approach is useful when responsive design alone is not enough for a particular page. You can prepare different wording, structure, or content for mobile visitors while retaining the desktop version for larger screens. The public address remains unchanged: desktop visitors see desktop content, and mobile visitors see the mobile content you created for that page or post.
Build mobile versions in WordPress
To create a mobile version, open Pages or Posts in the WordPress admin area. Find the item you want to adapt and choose Create mobile version, or use the plus icon in the devices column. Edit the mobile version as needed and save it. The same workflow applies to blog posts.
Logged-in users can see an additional mobile-version URL for testing, but logged-out visitors do not see that address. For public visitors, the original page URL is used and the plugin determines which content to display based on the device.
Pro controls for device-specific publishing
The Pro version extends the basic page and post workflow with broader control over mobile presentation:
- Create mobile versions for all supported queriable post types.
- Load a different theme specifically on mobile devices.
- Unload specific plugins only on mobile devices.
- Choose whether tablets should be treated as mobile devices.
- Use a different navigation on mobile.
- Write specific content depending on the device.
- Access premium support.
These options can help separate mobile publishing decisions from the desktop experience. A site can use different navigation, theme handling, or plugin loading for mobile visitors where that distinction is needed.
Metadata and caching considerations
Mobile and desktop versions can share post metadata by default. The settings include an option to allow mobile versions to have their own metadata, with synchronization choices available for the most popular SEO plugins. This lets you decide whether the two versions should use shared or separate metadata behavior.
If your site uses server caching, configure different cache handling for mobile devices. Otherwise, a mobile version could also be served on desktop devices. The source guidance specifically notes that caching plugins with mobile-cache management can handle this distinction, and mobile redirections should not be configured for this plugin.
Installation and developer options
Install and activate the Pro plugin in WordPress, then create mobile versions from the Pages or Posts admin screens. Review the mobile cache settings before publishing. The plugin is not an AMP solution: it does not create AMP markup or redirect visitors to AMP pages.
Developers can place custom mobile template files in wp-content/scfm/ or the theme’s scfm folder. Theme support and integration hooks are also documented for blog content, metadata synchronization, and related mobile or desktop post IDs.
