Control payment gateways by user role
Payment Gateways by User Roles for WooCommerce Pro lets you manage which payment gateways appear for different user roles in a WooCommerce store. Instead of presenting every available payment method to every shopper, you can create role-based rules for the gateways used by your store.
The Pro edition is designed for stores that need this control across more than the four standard gateways covered by the base plugin. It supports almost all payment gateways created for WooCommerce, including Stripe for WooCommerce and custom payment gateways created for WooCommerce.
Choose included or excluded roles
For each payment gateway, you can choose between two rule types:
- Included user roles: make the payment gateway available only to selected roles.
- Excluded user roles: make the payment gateway unavailable to selected roles.
This gives you two practical ways to organize payment availability. You can define a small group that is allowed to use a gateway, or make a gateway available generally while excluding particular roles.
Work with custom user roles
The plugin supports custom user roles present in your WooCommerce store as well as the roles already available in the store. This makes the role rules suitable for stores with distinct customer groups, staff roles, or other custom role structures.
You can also choose how the plugin evaluates roles when a user has more than one role assigned. The rule check can consider either the user’s first assigned role or all roles assigned to that user. This setting lets you align gateway visibility with the way roles are organized in your store.
Support a wider range of gateways
The base plugin provides role controls for Direct bank transfer, Check payments, Cash on delivery, and PayPal. The Pro edition extends this approach to almost all WooCommerce payment gateways, including Stripe for WooCommerce and custom payment gateways created for WooCommerce.
This can be useful when different groups need different checkout options. For example, logged-in administrative staff may need access to Cash on delivery while guest users are limited to online card payments. The same included or excluded role logic can be applied to the payment gateways used by your store.
Practical workflow
- Identify the payment gateways that need role-based visibility.
- Choose whether each gateway should include or exclude selected roles.
- Select the relevant standard or custom user roles.
- Choose whether the rule check should use the first assigned role or all assigned roles.
- Apply the rules to the payment gateways used in your WooCommerce checkout.
Installation and setup
Install the Pro plugin in the WooCommerce store where role-based payment gateway control is required. After installation, configure the role rules for each payment gateway, select the roles to include or exclude, and choose the role-checking method that matches your store’s user-role structure.
Payment Gateways by User Roles for WooCommerce Pro is suited to stores that need more precise payment gateway visibility across standard, Stripe, and custom WooCommerce payment methods.
