Manage inactive WordPress sessions
Inactive Logout Pro is a session-management extension for WordPress sites where users may leave logged-in sessions unattended. It automatically terminates inactive sessions after a configured period and can show a warning before logout. The plugin is designed for straightforward setup, with timeout and session behavior controlled from its settings.
The Pro edition extends basic inactivity handling with tools for monitoring sessions, controlling concurrent logins, managing individual users, and customizing the experience shown before or after logout. It also includes support for WooCommerce and multisite configurations.
Timeouts, messages, and redirects
Set an idle timeout for WordPress users and optionally display a 10-second countdown before the session ends. If a countdown is not appropriate, it can be removed. You can instead show a wake-up message when inactivity is detected without logging the user out.
- Create a custom popup message for users approaching logout.
- Show an idle message to non-authenticated visitors or redirect them.
- Send users to a custom page or an existing page instead of using a popup.
- Use a dedicated timeout page with content and styling suited to the site theme.
- Display a toast notification when logout occurs.
Multiple user role configurations allow different timeout values and session logout redirects for different roles. Login redirects and logout redirects can also be configured to suit the site workflow.
Session and user controls
Inactive Logout Pro provides tools for sites that need more visibility into active and previous sessions. Track user login sessions and review visitor details based on login time, logout time, browser, online status, session duration, role, operating system, and IP address.
- Force logout for all users.
- Log out specific users or bulk logout multiple users.
- Set concurrent login limits.
- Apply last-login activity overrides and multiple-login priority settings.
- Lock a user when a configured login limit has been reached.
- Send email notifications and customize email templates for locked concurrent sessions.
The Pro features also include automatic browser-close logout after a defined duration and multi-tab support. Inactive logout can be disabled for specified pages when particular areas of a site need different session behavior. Additional post type support is available through the documented configuration.
Site compatibility and interface options
The plugin has a clean user interface and supports WooCommerce. On multisite installations, one setting can override settings across all sites. The native WordPress login popup after logout can be disabled, and the modal can be customized with HTML render elements for the default and wake-up popups.
Installation and setup
- Install and activate Inactive Logout Pro in WordPress.
- Open the plugin settings and define the idle timeout.
- Choose whether to use the countdown, wake-up message, popup, toast notification, or redirect behavior.
- Configure role-specific rules, session controls, and any required page exclusions.
- Review the resulting logout and redirect flow for the relevant user roles.
If a MailPoet admin page conflict occurs, the documented ina_logout_mailpoet_conflict_fix filter can be added to functions.php and set to return false. The source also notes a possible Slimstat Analytics colorpicker conflict with versions up to 4.6.2.
