WordPress backup and migration
Duplicator Pro is designed to help WordPress users create backups, move websites, clone installations, and prepare staging sites. It packages website files and the database into a single backup that can be downloaded and installed at another WordPress location or server. This supports practical moves between domains or hosts without dealing with complicated manual setups.
The plugin is built around a migration wizard intended to keep backup and transfer tasks straightforward. A packaged site can be used at a new destination, including an empty site, so you can prepare a complete WordPress installation without first going through a separate WordPress setup.
Paid capabilities
- Scheduled backups: plan recurring backup tasks instead of creating every backup manually.
- Cloud storage integrations: send backups to supported cloud storage services as part of your backup workflow.
- Multisite support: work with WordPress multisite projects.
- Staging sites: clone a site for staging and use a separate environment for site work.
Duplicator also provides the backup and restoration tools described for its engine, including backups of any size, encrypted archives, one-click restore, and cloud storage. Password protection and AES-256 archive encryption can be used to protect backups. The security status of each backup is visible at a glance.
Flexible backup workflow
The chunked backup engine divides the work into smaller steps. This is intended to help backups complete on shared hosting with strict server timeouts, including larger sites. You can select an archive engine that fits your server, such as DupArchive, ZipArchive, or shell zip. Database options include mysqldump and chunked PHP.
Backups can build in the background while you continue working. AutoTune runs test backups and identifies a configuration for the hosting environment. Before a backup, Duplicator checks the server configuration and explains problems in plain language when they occur, with a one-click fix where available.
Migration, cloning, and restore use cases
Use Duplicator Pro when transferring a site to a different host or domain, creating a complete backup for download, or cloning a production site for staging. When a saved backup is needed, one-click restore from the WordPress dashboard avoids FTP and manual installer uploads.
Installation
Install Duplicator Pro in your WordPress installation, then open its tools from the WordPress dashboard. Begin by creating a backup package, selecting the available archive and database settings for your server, or configuring scheduled backups and cloud storage for an ongoing workflow. For a migration, download or store the package, then install it at the destination and follow the migration wizard.
