Practical accessibility testing in WordPress
Accessibility Checker Pro helps content creators, site owners, and developers identify and address accessibility issues within WordPress. It supports a workflow of scanning content, reviewing identified problems, applying available fixes, and documenting progress toward more accessible content.
The plugin performs more than 40 automated checks based on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2. Issues are reviewed inside WordPress, with documentation for each finding to help explain the problem and guide remediation. The checks relate primarily to WCAG Level A and AA success criteria.
Review issues where content is edited
Accessibility Checker scans content when it is saved or published and displays accessibility problems directly in the WordPress editor. You can review issues without leaving the edit screen or switch to a front-end view to see the elements that need attention.
This workflow helps teams include accessibility review alongside ordinary content updates. Common content changes may include adding missing alternative text, improving heading order, correcting link text, addressing color contrast issues, or adding headings to tables. Some findings may require changes to a theme, plugin, or custom code; the plugin provides information that can help communicate those problems to the appropriate developer.
Pro scanning and automated fixes
Pro supports bulk full-site scanning and scanning for custom post types, including content types such as portfolios, team member pages, and WooCommerce products. This extends review beyond standard blog posts and pages.
Accessibility Checker includes one-click fixes for common barriers. Available automated fixes include adding skip links and focus outlines, blocking links from opening new windows, forcing links to be underlined, labeling comment and search fields, adding missing language and direction attributes, making the viewport scalable, removing positive tab indexes, removing title attributes when preferred accessible names are present, adding warnings to links that open in new tabs, showing an error message for empty search submissions, and adding file size and type information to links.
Pro-specific automated fixes include adding missing page titles, blocking PDF uploads, and labeling form fields.
Supported editing workflows
Accessibility Checker has been tested with the Gutenberg Block Editor, Classic Editor, Advanced Custom Fields, Avada, Beaver Builder, Divi, Elementor, Oxygen, WP Bakery, and WooCommerce. This gives teams several ways to incorporate accessibility checks into existing WordPress workflows.
Support and ongoing work
Pro customers receive unlimited personal support for plugin usage and features. Customers on a small business plan or above receive two accessibility office hours calls each month for remediation questions. The plugin’s issue information and linked help articles can also support teams as they work through findings.
Installation
Install Accessibility Checker Pro in WordPress, then save or publish content to begin scanning. Review the reported issues in the editor, use available automated fixes where appropriate, and run broader scans for custom post types or WooCommerce content as part of an ongoing accessibility review process.
