Keep custom code intact in WordPress
Raw HTML Pro is for WordPress content that needs to retain custom HTML, JavaScript, or CSS without automatic formatting changing the code. It prevents selected content from being altered by formatting behavior such as automatic paragraph creation, smart quotes, image smilies, and character conversion.
The Pro version is especially useful when an editor needs to move between the Text/HTML editor and the Visual editor. Code placed inside [raw] tags appears as a read-only placeholder in Visual mode, while the original code is restored when switching back to HTML or when the post is displayed to readers.
Protect selected sections
Wrap any part of a post or page in [raw]…[/raw] tags to prevent WordPress from converting newlines into paragraphs or replacing straight quotation marks with typographic quotes. A second tag format is also available; it works in the same way but is not visible to visitors if Raw HTML is deactivated.
This workflow is useful for posts containing embedded code, CSS blocks, JavaScript, or markup that must remain in its original form. The protected area can be edited from the Text/HTML view, while the Pro placeholder helps prevent accidental changes during Visual editing.
Control WordPress filters
Raw HTML adds checkboxes to the Edit Post screen for disabling selected WordPress filters on a per-post basis. You can disable wptexturize, which creates smart quotes and other typographic characters; automatic paragraph creation; image smilies; and convert_chars, which converts ampersands to HTML entities and adjusts some Unicode characters.
Some Raw HTML features require the unfiltered_html capability. In a standard WordPress installation, this capability is available to Editor and Administrator roles. In a Multisite installation, it is available by default only to the Super Admin.
Shortcodes and excerpts
Shortcodes inside raw blocks are shown as plain text by default. To allow them to run, add the shortcodes=1 attribute to the raw tag, as in [raw shortcodes=1]. Raw blocks are also removed from automatically generated excerpts by default. To preserve them in excerpts, add the RAW_HTML_KEEP_RAW_IN_EXCERPTS definition to the wp-config.php file.
Editor compatibility
Raw HTML does not fully support the Gutenberg editor. Since WordPress 5.0, some features work only when the Classic Editor plugin is used. For posts containing custom code, the documented workflow is to edit in Text/HTML mode and use the Pro version when Visual editing is also needed.
Installation and use
Add Raw HTML Pro to WordPress, then open a post or page in the available editor. Place code that should be protected inside raw tags, select any per-post filter options required, and save the content. When Visual editing is needed, the Pro version displays protected code as read-only placeholders.
