Temporary, limited WordPress administration
Controlled Admin Access Pro helps site administrators provide temporary dashboard access to theme designers, plugin developers, and support agents without giving unrestricted control of the WordPress administration area. Create a restricted administrator account, select the areas it can use, and disable access when the task is complete.
The account can retain its information after being disabled, allowing you to activate it again later if further work is required. Expiration settings also help prevent access from continuing indefinitely.
Control menus and internal pages
Select the admin menu items that a restricted administrator may access. The plugin can hide selected menu items and block the related page if the user tries to reach it another way.
Pro adds more detailed control over plugins’ internal pages. For example, you can allow access to WooCommerce Settings while restricting the Payments Gateways tab. Internal-page support currently includes WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, and BuddyPress.
Set access duration and availability
Set an expiration time for each restricted administrator. After the account expires, it can no longer be used to log in to the WordPress dashboard. You can extend the expiry time or change it when the work requires additional access.
You can also disable a restricted account at any time. This is useful when a developer has finished fixing a bug, installing a theme, or completing another administrative task. Disabling the account blocks login while retaining its account information for possible future use.
Passwordless access and administrator controls
Generate a secure login URL to send to a restricted user. The recipient can use the link to enter the dashboard without a password. You can also disable password login for restricted administrators, preventing login with a password or the sending of a password-reset email.
The plugin can hide admin bar links at the top of the page in both the frontend and administration areas. This provides another way to limit the visible navigation and actions available to a restricted account.
Review activity and end sessions
Use the activity log to review what restricted administrators have done while logged in. The plugin records more than 20 actions, including activating, deactivating, or deleting a plugin; switching or deleting a theme; exporting data; publishing or deleting a post; and uploading a file.
If access should end immediately, use remote logout to force a restricted administrator out of all logged-in devices and locations.
Installation and workflow
- Install and activate Controlled Admin Access Pro.
- Create a restricted administrator account for the person completing the task.
- Choose permitted menu items, internal pages, expiration settings, and other access controls.
- Send the account details or generate a login URL.
- Review activity and disable or remotely log out the account when the task is complete.
This workflow gives site owners a practical way to delegate WordPress administration while retaining control over where temporary users can go and when their access ends.
