Take control of WordPress URLs
Custom Permalinks Premium helps you organize a WordPress site around URL structures that match your content, navigation, and publishing goals. Instead of relying only on WordPress defaults, you can assign custom URL paths to individual posts, pages, tags, and categories.
The plugin also supports custom permalink structures for each public post type. These structures can use predefined tags to generate URLs when content is created, while individual permalinks can still be edited manually whenever a specific page needs a different path.
Flexible permalink management
For an individual item, enter the URL path you want in the Custom Permalink field available while editing a post, page, category, or tag. This makes it possible to create clearer, more deliberate URL patterns across different content areas.
For automated structures, available tags can represent dates, post IDs, categories, authors, titles, and page relationships. Options include year, month, day, hour, minute, and second values, along with %post_id%, %category%, %author%, and %postname%. Parent-page tags can include the immediate parent or all selected parent slugs.
The %title% tag creates a slug from the title and can update when the title changes while the content remains in draft mode. Once a post is published or its permalink is manually edited, automatic updates stop for that specific post. Custom taxonomy values can also be used through the relevant taxonomy tag.
Redirects for changed URLs
When a custom permalink replaces the original WordPress URL, the original address is automatically redirected to the new one. This helps existing links, bookmarks, and search engine requests continue to reach the content after a URL change.
Developer control and premium assistance
Custom Permalinks includes filters that developers can use to fine-tune how the plugin behaves. Example code snippets and information about available filters can be explored in the project’s GitHub repository.
Custom Permalinks Premium provides prioritized one-on-one email support for implementation questions. This is particularly useful when a site requires help applying filters or planning a more involved permalink structure. Basic support may also be available through the WordPress.org forums, while bug reports are directed to GitHub with complete reproduction details.
