Export WordPress media with precision
Export Media as ZIP Premium helps administrators collect selected WordPress media files in a ZIP archive. Instead of exporting the entire media library without control, you can choose the upload years, image sizes, and document types that should be included. A live preview shows how many images match the current filters before the export begins.
The Premium edition is designed for practical media transfers, archive preparation, and recurring collection tasks. It supports common image formats and can also include supported office and document files alongside images.
Choose the files to include
Filter images by year
The Year filter lists years with image uploads and displays a count for each year. Select one or more years to narrow the export to a specific period, such as a campaign year, content archive, or project timeframe.
Select image sizes
Choose Full Size for the original uploaded file or select intermediate sizes registered by WordPress core, the active theme, or plugins. Available options may include Thumbnail, Medium, Large, and custom sizes. Only the sizes you check are included. If a selected intermediate file was not generated for a particular image, it is skipped.
Include supported documents
Premium can add PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files to the ZIP. Supported extensions include PDF, DOC and DOCX, XLS and XLSX, and PPT and PPTX. Documents are included at their original file size; the Image Size filter applies only to images.
Manage large and recurring exports
For larger collections, enable Run in background. The export is queued and processed in chunks through WP-Cron rather than one blocking request. This workflow is intended to avoid browser timeouts and does not require the browser tab to remain open. When processing is complete, Premium emails a download link. The background export link is valid for 24 hours.
Premium also supports recurring exports on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. Configure the Year, Image Size, and Document Type filters together with a recipient email address. Each scheduled run takes place automatically in the background and sends a fresh download link by email.
Preview and temporary file handling
A real-time progress bar displays export progress while a standard export is running. The ZIP file is written temporarily to the uploads directory and is automatically deleted after five minutes through a scheduled WP-Cron event.
Access to the export page is limited to users with the manage_options capability, which normally means administrators. The plugin has no external dependencies.
Installation and basic workflow
- Install and activate Export Media as ZIP Premium in the WordPress site.
- Open the export page as an administrator.
- Select upload years, image sizes, and any document types to include.
- Review the matching image count, then start the export or enable background processing.
- For recurring work, choose a schedule and recipient email before saving the scheduled export.
Use the standard export for immediate collection, background processing for larger selections, and scheduled exports when the same filtered ZIP needs to be generated repeatedly.
