Control how featured images appear
WP Hide Show Featured Image Pro gives WordPress administrators more control over featured-image visibility across posts, pages, and supported custom post types. It is intended for sites where one global display rule is not enough, such as layouts that need different image treatment on desktop and mobile or selected content that should not show its featured image.
The plugin also includes administration-focused display controls. These settings can remove selected elements from the WordPress toolbar and provide a cleaner front-end or dashboard experience for the users and roles covered by your configuration.
Pro controls
- Show or hide featured images based on device, including desktop and mobile.
- Manage featured-image visibility on each individual post or page.
- Use featured-image controls with custom post types.
- Hide the front-end admin toolbar based on specific user roles.
- Remove the “Howdy” greeting from the admin bar.
- Remove the WordPress logo from the admin toolbar.
These options let you combine broad presentation choices with more precise content-level settings. For example, you can apply a device-specific rule for responsive presentation, then manage visibility on individual posts or pages where the standard behavior does not fit.
Practical use cases
Responsive content presentation
Use the device-specific controls when featured images should appear on desktop but be hidden on mobile, or when the opposite arrangement is required. This provides a direct way to manage image visibility for different viewing contexts.
Selective content management
Per-post and per-page controls are useful when featured images are appropriate for some content but unnecessary for other entries. Support for custom post types extends the same type of visibility management beyond standard WordPress posts and pages.
Role-based toolbar display
If different users need different front-end toolbar behavior, the Pro version can hide the admin toolbar based on user roles. Separate settings can also remove the WordPress logo and the “Howdy” greeting from the admin bar.
Compatibility notes
The plugin works best when your theme uses standard WordPress functions to display featured images. If a theme uses a custom method, the plugin may not function as expected. It is currently not compatible with the Image widget in page builders such as Elementor, Divi Builder, WPBakery, or similar tools when that widget dynamically displays the featured image.
Installation
If the free version of WP Hide Show Featured Image is installed, deactivate and delete it before installing the Pro version. Install and activate the Pro plugin through WordPress, then open its settings page to configure featured-image visibility and toolbar options. Review the settings for global presentation, individual content, device rules, and user roles. Finally, check representative posts, pages, custom post types, and device views to confirm that your theme displays the intended result.
The Pro offering also includes priority support and regular feature updates as stated in its feature list.
