Check plugin compatibility before important updates
Plugin Compatibility Checker helps WordPress site owners review installed plugins for PHP, database, and WordPress version compatibility. It is designed to make compatibility information easier to review before installing updates or changing the hosting environment.
The checker also includes database readiness information related to WordPress 7.0. Because WordPress 7.0 introduces stricter database requirements, the plugin detects MySQL or MariaDB compatibility and warns when an environment may be too old for future WordPress updates.
Choose the Entry or Pro plan
Entry Plan
The Entry Plan requires a $1/month recurring subscription through the CompatShield Portal and an activated license key. After activation, compatibility results are available inside the WordPress admin.
- PHP compatibility results for plugins, up to PHP 8.5.
- Basic database version detection in WordPress admin.
- Rescanning after plugins are installed or updated.
- Identification of plugins where no data is available, including some custom, premium, or removed WordPress.org versions.
Pro Plan
The Pro Plan adds access to the full CompatShield Portal Dashboard. It provides detailed compatibility results, broader analysis, and additional tools for reviewing plugin issues and upgrade readiness.
- Detailed PHP compatibility insights and analysis.
- Full database upgrade-readiness insights, risk analysis, and recommendations.
- Vulnerability summary information in the portal.
- Email notifications when scans complete or risks are detected.
- Historic analysis, plugin issue overviews, and site overview information.
- Scanning for custom or premium plugin ZIP files through the portal uploader.
Practical scanning workflow
Use the checker after installing or updating plugins, or before planning a WordPress upgrade. Start a rescan from the plugin’s main page to include newly added plugins. Review the available results in WordPress admin with the Entry Plan, or use the Portal Dashboard for the deeper reporting available with Pro.
A “No Data” result can help identify plugins that are custom, premium, or no longer represented by an available WordPress.org version. Database checks can also show whether the hosting environment may be affected by the requirements associated with WordPress 7.0, including MySQL 8.0+ or MariaDB 10.6+.
Installation and license setup
Install Plugin Compatibility Checker in WordPress, then open its settings and use the License tab. For the Entry Plan, subscribe to the CompatShield Portal, add your domain, copy the license key, and paste it into the plugin settings.
- Validate the license.
- Save the settings.
- Open the plugin’s main page.
- Click Rescan to run the first compatibility check.
Without license activation, visibility of compatibility results is limited. Pro users can continue reviewing expanded results and related portal features from the CompatShield Dashboard.
