Organize WordPress content with virtual folders
Folders Pro is a paid edition of the Folders plugin for organizing WordPress media files, pages, posts, and custom posts. It uses virtual folders rather than creating physical folders on the server or inside the WordPress installation, so placing an item in a folder does not change its URL.
The interface supports folder trees and content organization for projects that contain many images, videos, audio files, documents, pages, or posts. Web developers can arrange client content, while bloggers can group material by topic, category, or date. Folder icons can be customized, and folders can be marked or managed as important for easier navigation.
Advanced folder management
Pro adds controls for locking folders so they remain pinned and cannot be dragged or deleted. You can lock or unlock all folders, duplicate an existing folder, and sort folders by creation date. The plugin also provides keyboard shortcuts for actions such as creating, renaming, duplicating, and reordering folders.
When adding or moving content, you can select a specific folder. Folders Pro also allows direct uploads to a chosen media library folder and lets you create media library folders while uploading new files. Default folders can be selected for the media library, pages, posts, and custom posts, including a choice to show unassigned files when an area is opened.
Media replacement and file details
The media replacement tools can replace files while updating references in the database. Supported replacement workflows include PDF, SVG, DOCX, XLSX, and other file types identified in the product information. You can compare the old and new media files, including details such as size and dimensions, during replacement.
Pro can automatically rename a media file based on its WordPress editor title. Additional replacement options include changing dates and organizing according to a newer date. Metadata details such as title, size, type, date, and dimensions can be displayed when hovering over media library files.
Uploads, compatibility, and access controls
Folders Pro supports SVG uploads and includes a sticky media library toolbar for navigating and organizing folders. It can import folder structures from FileBird, Enhanced Media Library, Wicked Folders, Real Media Library, and WP Media Folder, and it can export the Folders structure.
Folder user restriction limits users to their own folders and media when enabled, while admin-type users can view all folders. This restriction can also be enabled for Dynamic Folders. The plugin includes an option to move files to the trash.
Installation and setup
Install Folders Pro in WordPress and activate it. Create or import a folder structure, then arrange media, pages, posts, and custom posts using the folder interface. Set default folders, configure access restrictions, and choose the replacement or upload options that fit your content workflow.
