Build author and user listings
Authors List Pro is designed for displaying a list or grid of post authors, or other user roles, on a WordPress website. Each listed user can be linked to their post archive page. The display is managed through a WordPress admin interface, while the [authors_list] shortcode provides a direct way to place the listing in content.
The Pro edition adds three highlighted capabilities: Styler, Search, and Filters. Together, these tools help site administrators control the appearance of the listing and give visitors more practical ways to find and organize users.
Pro features
- Styler: change the color, typography, and spacing of elements in the authors list.
- Search: let visitors search for specific users.
- Filters: provide a better way to organize the authors list.
Shortcode display controls
The shortcode supports settings for visual layout, content, ordering, and user selection. Choose among styles 1, 2, or 3, set two, three, or four columns, and select a horizontal or vertical column direction. You can also set the avatar size, the number of users shown, and whether to display the user title, post count, biography, or link.
Sorting options include post count, post date, ID, login, nicename, email, URL, registration date, display name, first name, and last name. The order can be ascending or descending. Additional controls can skip users without posts, require a minimum post count, trim biography text by word count, or show only authors.
Choose the users to display
Authors List Pro can include or exclude specific user IDs and limit the output by role, such as administrator or editor. The listing can also be limited to users whose latest post was published within a selected number of days. Name-based controls can restrict results by the beginning of a display name, first name, or last name.
For content-based organization, the shortcode accepts category IDs, term IDs, and a taxonomy name such as post_tag. These settings allow a listing to be focused around selected content groupings rather than showing every available user.
Customize each listing element
Before-and-after attributes are available for the avatar, title, count, biography, and link. These attributes can add custom content around each element. They also support dynamic user or author meta fields using the documented {al:INSERT_FIELD_NAME} format.
Additional dynamic output can display post links and social links, with social links requiring Yoast SEO. The title element surrounding the user or author name can also be selected, with the default set to a div and other elements, such as h2, available.
Installation and setup
After adding Authors List Pro to the WordPress site, configure the available options in the WordPress admin area or place the [authors_list] shortcode where the author listing should appear. Start with the basic shortcode, then add attributes for the layout, user selection, ordering, displayed information, styling, search, and filtering requirements of the page.
