Interactive maps for locations and communities
Open User Map PRO is a WordPress map plugin for building custom maps, community maps, directories, store locators, travel guides, event maps, and other location-based projects. It is based on Leaflet Map JS and supports OpenStreetMap, OpenFreeMap vector, MapBox, and other flexible map styles. No Google Maps API key is required.
You can create a map with your own markers or allow visitors to submit locations from the frontend. New submissions can wait for approval before appearing on the map, helping you review community contributions before publication. Maps can be added through Gutenberg blocks, Elementor widgets, shortcodes, or the stand-alone [open-user-map-form] shortcode.
PRO tools for richer map projects
- Filterable marker categories: Organize locations into multiple groups, with individual marker icons for each category.
- Lines and areas: Let visitors draw routes, paths, zones, or boundaries directly on the map.
- Live marker filtering: Filter markers as visitors type in the search bar.
- Advanced filter interface: Add a filter sidebar that uses configured custom fields, along with custom HTML content sections for additional information or branding.
- Custom image map style: Use an image layer, such as a floor plan, event map, seating plan, or fantasy map, while retaining interactions, clustering, and popups.
- Location limits: Display selected categories or post IDs, including a single location, through block settings or shortcode attributes.
- Single location pages: Enable pages for locations when you need to provide more content around individual entries.
Flexible location content and displays
When single pages are enabled, locations can receive a post thumbnail, excerpt, and default content template. You can also use query loop blocks to create a custom list or grid. The [open-user-map-location] shortcode displays a selected value from a location, while [open-user-map-gallery] creates a gallery of location images with links to their corresponding map markers.
For directory-style presentations, [open-user-map-list] displays locations as a list. You can also build a custom list or grid with native query loop blocks. Location images, descriptions, audio, videos, and other media can support richer marker content.
User editing and development options
Registered users can be given capabilities to read, edit, and delete their own locations from within the map. This is useful for community directories, collaborative guides, and projects where contributors should manage their own entries without managing every location.
Open User Map also provides custom JavaScript and CSS inputs, WordPress hooks for extending functionality, and a hook for modifying location data before rendering. A PHP function can retrieve a specific location value, and URL parameters can highlight a particular marker after a submission or redirect.
Setup and publishing workflow
After adding the plugin to your WordPress site, create a map and choose the map style, marker presentation, fields, and submission settings that fit your project. Add your own markers, or enable frontend submissions and approval. Place the map with Gutenberg, Elementor, or a shortcode, then configure categories, filters, galleries, lists, or location pages as needed.
Open User Map PRO also includes a 7-day trial of its PRO features without a credit card, allowing you to test the advanced map tools before choosing how to build your project.
