Control what WordPress loads
Asset CleanUp Pro gives experienced WordPress administrators more precise control over the resources generated for each page. Themes and plugins can load stylesheets and scripts where they are not needed, such as contact-form files on a homepage or store assets outside a shop. Asset CleanUp helps you review those resources and unload what a page does not use.
This approach can reduce HTTP requests, page weight, browser work, PHP work, and database queries. It complements page caching, server caching, and CDN delivery rather than replacing them. After changing rules, clear every active cache layer and avoid enabling the same minification or combination feature in multiple optimization plugins.
Testable asset management
Use Test Mode to validate changes as an administrator before they affect visitors. The Dashboard provides a central Overview page for reviewing unload rules, exceptions, asset attributes, page options, and leftover entries. Manage assets from the Dashboard, a post or page edit screen, or the front-end view.
Asset CleanUp Pro extends management beyond standard enqueued files. Its Plugins Manager can prevent entire plugins from running on selected frontend or Dashboard pages, rather than only removing their CSS and JavaScript. Pro also provides broader conditional rules, hardcoded asset management, device-specific rules, and advanced controls for JavaScript attributes and placement.
CSS, JavaScript, and critical styling
- Unload unnecessary CSS and JavaScript on the homepage, individual posts, pages, and custom post types.
- Minify and combine supported CSS and JavaScript, including supported inline code.
- Preload selected CSS and JavaScript files when earlier discovery is useful.
- Add, edit, and remove manually prepared Critical CSS by supported page context.
- Organize manual Critical CSS without maintaining one large global block.
Asset CleanUp does not automatically generate Critical CSS. Instead, it provides a structured place to manage CSS that you prepare yourself.
Fonts, images, and WordPress cleanup
Manage Google Fonts requests by combining, preloading, asynchronously loading, or removing them. Font-display and preconnect controls are available, along with local font preloading. For images, add fetchpriority, loading, and decoding attributes using simple matching or regular expressions, and lazy-load images where appropriate.
Additional cleanup options can remove Emojis, Dashicons for guests, Comment Reply, selected discovery links, metadata, and oEmbed resources from the document head. You can also disable RSS feed links or feeds, restrict or disable XML-RPC when it is not needed, and strip supported HTML comments with exceptions where required.
Installation and workflow
Install Asset CleanUp Pro on the WordPress site, open the Dashboard, and begin with Getting Started, Test Mode, and the Overview page. Review the resources loaded on a page, create unload or conditional rules, and test them before applying them to visitors. After publishing changes, clear the site’s active cache layers and review the result on the relevant devices and page contexts.
